Use these questions slowly. You do not need to complete them in one sitting or share your answers with anyone. The goal is clarity, not a polished explanation.

Name what happened

Describe concrete words, actions, decisions and power dynamics. Separate what you know from what you suspect. This can help you hold onto your own experience without having to diagnose another person.

  • What happened, in the plainest words I can use?
  • What did I ask for, and how did people respond?
  • Was I free to disagree, pause, leave or seek outside advice?

Name what it cost

Church hurt can involve more than the original event. You may have lost friends, work, identity, routine, trust or a sense of closeness with God.

  • What am I grieving?
  • What has changed in my body, relationships, prayer or sense of safety?
  • What have I been pressured to minimize?

Choose one safe next step

A next step can be small: saving records, telling one trusted person, declining a meeting, seeking counseling or allowing yourself to rest.

  • What boundary would reduce pressure this week?
  • Who is independent enough to offer a clear perspective?
  • What kind of professional or safeguarding help may be appropriate?
